The number of infections by coronavirus (COVID-19) in Puerto Rico it rose today, Saturday, to 1,118 and deaths increased to 60, reported the Health Department on your dashboard.
The change in the figures represents 50 new positive cases and two additional deaths, according to statistics managed by the agency whose secretary, Lorenzo González Feliciano, acknowledged yesterday that they have been wrongly reporting the numbers of the incidences of the virus on the island.
“We are working on filtering and classifying the results of positive cases to present a clear table on the statistics of COVID-19 on the island. Said information is being verified by the Epidemiology and Biosafety team of the Department of Health, so that, once fully validated, it will be updated and published appropriately ”González Feliciano indicated this morning, through written statements.
Through a press release, the agency reported that one of the two additional deaths corresponds to a 73-year-old woman from the Aguadilla region and the other to a 70-year-old man from the Caguas region. Both deaths were registered as cases with confirmed results as positive for the coronavirus. The Demographic Registry did not report deceased persons.
Of the 50 additional positive results, 43 were obtained from private laboratories, four from the Public Health Laboratory and three were reported by the Veterans Hospital.
Meanwhile, the most recent dashboard report shows that 581 of the total cases are men and 537 women.
In addition, according to the portal, in Puerto Rico the number of tests amounts to 10,933 tests, of which 1,118 have been positive, 8,055 negative, and the results of 1,752 of them are expected.
Health sent again today, after days without doing so, the breakdown of cases by age, by region, by municipality and on whether or not the patients had a travel history, and also the one that shows whether or not they suffered from symptoms at the time they were performed. the proof
The age group between 50 and 59 years continues to be the one with the highest incidence of infections with 249 cases, followed by the range between 40 and 49 with 212 and 30 to 39 with 162.
According to the statistical report, of the total of confirmed cases, about 399 people were asymptomatic at the time of the test, 163 presented symptoms and 556 cases did not have such information available.
Meanwhile, 59 patients had pre-test travel history, 167 did not, and 892 cases did not have that information available.
From the breakdown of cases by municipalities of residence, it appears that there is a town “not available” with 331 cases, followed by San Juan with 153 positive cases and Guaynabo with 70.
The agency details on its website that 2,580 adult beds are already occupied and 1,103 are available out of a total of 3,683. However, the occupation of these beds is irrespective of the status of the coronavirus on the island.
Meanwhile, about 815 respirators are available for patients, out of a total of 1,050.
Since the emergency began, according to the portal, the agency has ordered only 380 respirators, has received 25 and has not delivered any.
González Feliciano and the coordinator of the medical task force, Segundo Rodríguez, mentioned a few weeks ago that in Puerto Rico it would take over 3,000 respirators to attend to the emergency caused by the virus.
