Health reports 182 unique positive cases for COVID-19 in a single day

Puerto Rico added today, Saturday, the highest number of unique positive cases for COVID-19 in a single day with 182 infections that bring the total to 1,757, according to the Health Department.

Until today, the highest figures reported by the agency in 24 hours had been 109 and 106 cases that were reported on April 12 and 30, respectively.

Through a press release, Health reported that of the total of new cases, 173 results were obtained through serological tests and nine through molecular tests.

The global number of confirmed unique positive cases is broken down into 973 results obtained from molecular tests and 784 from serological tests.

While, of the total of 1,757 positive unique cases, 884 correspond to men and 873 to women.

Health added, in turn, one death due to the virus that corresponds to a 59-year-old woman who was in the Caguas region, so that the total number of fatalities due to the new coronavirus rose to 95.

The death was reported by the Demographic record after the clinical picture of the unfortunate woman, at the time of death, was compatible with COVID-19 and her doctor classified it in her death certificate.

For its part, the Surveillance System did not record cases of deaths confirmed by COVID-19.

Of the total of 95 deaths, 54 were reported by the Surveillance System of the Department of Health and 41 through the Demographic Registry.

The agency continues without disclosing the total number of tests that have been carried out in Puerto Rico to arrive at the statistics that were reported today. The approximate figure is 45,000 tests, according to Health Department press spokeswoman Michelle de la Cruz, who reported this to The new day.

People between 50 and 59 years of age are the age group most affected by COVID-19, whose number today amounts to 353 cases, followed by the range between 40 and 49 years (332) and 30 to 39 years (291).

The number of patients aged 19 years or younger infected with the new virus rose to 101 today, which translates into 10 more cases than those reported yesterday for that group. Specifically, 37 cases have been reported in the group aged 10 years or younger, while 64 have been reported for the group of patients between 10 and 19 years old.

The metropolitan area continues as the region of residence with the highest number of cases of infections with a total of 527, some 36 additional cases to those reported yesterday that amounted to 491. Meanwhile, the metro region is followed by Bayamón with 330 cases and Caguas with 245.

So far, 75 of the 78 municipalities have reported unique positive cases, according to Salud. The town with the most infections is San Juan with a total of 264, followed by Bayamón with 100 and Guaynabo with 99.

However, the agency does not have information on the place of residence of 119 infected people.

Meanwhile, the Health Department dashboard shows that since the emergency began, 355 respirators have been ordered and only 25 have arrived.

The total number of respirators on the island is 1,145, of which 254 are being used and 891 are available.

Likewise, the portal shows today that there are 3,029 occupied by patients and 3,502 are available at the island level. The figure, however, is irrespective of the status of COVID-19.
