Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – The city of Offenbach has counted the highest number of new corona infections within one day. The city health office had reported 22 since Wednesday, 19 of them returning travelers, the municipality announced on Thursday. The 7-day incidence was now 44.3 cases per 100,000 population. Offenbach thus crosses the next threshold in the state’s multi-level prevention concept. From a value of 35, this provides for expanded measures and the involvement of the Covid-19 planning team of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
The vast majority of new infections were due to younger travelers returning from the trip. For example, students were on vacation in Croatia and Portugal, both countries that were not at risk at the time. On Thursday, the Foreign Office issued a travel warning for parts of Croatia.
The administrative staff in Offenbach decided on an extended mask requirement, also for club rooms, changing rooms and sanitary rooms, educational facilities as well as sports and cultural facilities. Mouth and nose protection must also be worn at church services or other events in churches, mosques and synagogues. A notification and quarantine obligation now also applies in Offenbach to travelers from Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria, for example, who are only partially designated as risk areas. In addition, an everyday mask must be worn in the classrooms in schools. Teachers are required not to let students into classrooms without a mask.
Mayor Felix Schwenke (SPD) said 51 of the 57 corona cases in the past seven days were due to vacationers who tested positive after their return. “So we know the reason for the increased numbers in Offenbach relatively well. At the moment we don’t have to ban anything or close anything.”
