Health – Mainz – Corona incidence in Rhineland-Palatinate as low as in October – Health

Mainz (dpa / lrs) – The seven-day incidence in Rhineland-Palatinate has dropped to its lowest level in seven months. The State Investigation Office gave the value of 39.4 infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week (as of 2.10 p.m.). The incidence value was last lower on October 18, 2020.

The health authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate reported 260 new corona infections on Wednesday. According to the state investigation office, 7323 people are currently infected with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,716 Covid-19 patients have died in Rhineland-Palatinate, seven more than on Tuesday.

The highest seven-day incidence was according to the figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday morning (as of 3.11 a.m.) in the city of Worms with 118.5. This is followed by the cities of Ludwigshafen (113.2), Kaiserslautern (74.0) and Frankenthal (67.7).

“As before, the infection process in the city of Worms is classified as diffuse by the health department,” said the authority on the maximum value in Worms. There is no so-called hotspot. In around half of the new infections in the city of Worms between May 20 and 24, the source of the infection was unknown.

Regarding the infection occurrence in Ludwigshafen, the health department of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis emphasized that, from its point of view, the situation can still be described as diffuse. “The infections are largely isolated cases, mostly in the family area – only a few infections can be found in collective accommodation.”

Mainz has an incidence of 56.3. Shops, outdoor restaurants and museums in the state capital are reopening – at the same time there is no nighttime curfew. Significantly fewer new corona infections make the opening step possible from this Thursday. Outdoor cultural events are possible with up to 100 spectators, museums may reopen under certain conditions.

26 of the 36 districts and cities in Rhineland-Palatinate are below the threshold of 50. The district of Germersheim has the lowest incidence with 17.1 infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week. The RKI noted, however, that the numbers are subject to uncertainty due to the lower level of data collected over Pentecost.

The pandemic began in Rhineland-Palatinate at the end of February 2020 with a positive test in Koblenz. Since then, 151 883 people in the state have been proven to have been infected with Sars-CoV-2.
