Health. First vaccinations against Covid-19 at Bel-Air hospital

“I don’t see how I can get my patients to get the covid vaccine if I don’t do it myself!” Occupational doctor at Bel-Air hospital, the Dr Anne Pauly is one of five people (three doctors and two patients) to have stretched out her shoulder on Monday, for an injection of the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine.

A first at the Thionville establishment which has been working on the schedule of vaccinations since last week.

Clear and fair information

This primarily concerns vulnerable elderly people living in a collective environment and nursing staff over the age of 50, or under 50 with comorbidity. Two patients from the long-term care unit were thus made aware of this vaccination, two patients who were not affected by covid. One of them is 80 years old.

“We are in contact with his daughter who is his curator,” explains Dr Azzeddine Azzemou. After a family consultation, we sent him all the clear and fair information on the vaccination and the side effects ”.

“She took a moment to reflect and gave her consent,” continues the geriatrician who will be vaccinated next week. For the other patients who were infected with covid – about fifteen in total – we have to wait three months. “

Of course, before the injection, a pre-vaccination visit eliminates any contraindication and an emergency cart remains nearby in the event of immediate or late side effects. The protocol is strict. A nurse remains next to the patient fifteen minutes after the injection.

Beforehand, she will have checked that the refrigerator containing the thawed bottle is at the correct temperature. A check carried out three times a day. “One vial allows us to vaccinate four to five people,” says a caregiver.

The vaccination campaign at Bel-Air hospital will intensify from this Tuesday, still with volunteers, and will also quickly concern the staff and patients of the Hayange hospital.
