Dresden (dpa / sn) – After a four-week break, numerous schools in Saxony are opening today for the final classes. Around 50,800 girls and boys are then taught in divided classes in order to better prepare for upcoming exams. The partial opening in the middle of the corona lockdown, however, is causing discussions. There was criticism in the run-up from the GEW trade union, and the teachers’ association also considers the return of thousands of students to be premature in view of the continued high number of infections. There is also uncertainty at numerous schools because on Tuesday the federal and state governments will discuss how to proceed in the corona crisis. Further tightening cannot be ruled out.

At the beginning of the week, students and teachers can have a quick test for the coronavirus free of charge. There are around 100 central test schools in the country for this purpose. By Friday morning, 35 percent of students had signed up for a voluntary antigen test. Exact numbers are expected for Monday.
