Health consultation. Why do we speak of “Ségur”?

On the front line against coronavirus, nursing staff will have the right to their concerted action. Edouard Philippe and Olivier Véran will announce this Monday, May 25 to representatives of the sector, as part of this Segur whose objective is health system overhaul French. But why are we talking about Segur ?

This name comes from the avenue de Ségur in the 7th arrondissement of Paris where the Ministry of Health is located. And this practice of naming a concertation by the name of the street of the ministry in fact refers to 1968.

“Grenelle” of all kinds

At the time, when France was disturbed by the events of May, the government decided to organize a major concertation on work which would notably lead to higher wages. We are talking about the Grenelle Agreements, the name of the street in which the Ministry of Labor is located.

But over the years, this term has lost its original meaning and has become, in political parlance, a synonym for great concertation. In 2007, Nicolas Sarkozy thus organized an “Grenelle de l’Environnement”. More recently, in the fall of 2019, the government of Edouard Philippe wished for a “Grenelle of domestic violence”.

A practice with which Olivier Véran wanted to cut. We call it “Ségur” because the rue de Grenelle is the Ministry of Labor and the avenue de Ségur is my ministry, so we’re going to do a health Ségur, explained the Minister on May 17 in an interview with Sunday newspaper .
