Books – Ahmed Jumaa:
The Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Health added one of the drugs used to treat people with “AIDS” as part of the protocol to treat patients with the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19), which it updated last Saturday.

According to the treatment protocol seen by Masrawy, the committee added “lopinavir / ritonavir” and an anti-HIV drug in the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms, to be inside hospitals and under direct medical supervision.

According to the protocol, giving AIDS medicine to patients would be another pathway without giving the drug “hydroxychlorine”, which the committee had decided to keep in the treatment of other conditions.

Dr. Jehal Al-Assal, a member of the scientific committee to confront the Corona virus, said that it was stable to keep the drug “hydroxychloroquine” in the protocol of treatment of people with the emerging coronavirus, after the results of the studies that had been conducted proved that it was effective in treatment and was promising, and the recovery rate was good.

Masrawy explained that there was an amendment to the treatment protocol for those affected, and Tamiflu was deleted, and the addition of alternatives to other antiviral drugs with hydroxychloroquine.

According to the World Health Organization, two studies reported using the combination drug “lopinavir / ritonavir” as a preventive treatment after exposure to the Coronavirus. One of the two studies indicated that the incidence of infection with the Corona virus in health workers who received the combined drug compared to health workers who did not take any drugs.

The other study shows that there are no cases of infection with the HIV virus in 19 people who were infected with HIV who were receiving treatment in the hospital in the same wing that was hosting patients with SARS syndrome, knowing that 11 of them were receiving treatment with antiretroviral drugs. Once again, the level of certainty in terms of available evidence is very low due to the small sample sizes, the contrast of the drugs used, and the uncertainty about the severity of the exposure.

Doctors always advise not to take any medication before consulting and reviewing the specialist, as they may have side effects sometimes.
