In the United States, a lucky man won the sum of 731 million dollars, or 614 million euros, in the Powerball super-lottery last January. Much to the chagrin of many Americans, however, this person has decided to remain anonymous, reports the Washington Post, this Sunday.

Only clue, it would probably be a resident of the small town of Lonaconing, Maryland, since this is where the winning ticket was validated. If the big winner of the fifth biggest jackpot in the history of the country wants to remain discreet, as the law allows, rumors are rife in this town of 1,200 inhabitants.

An anonymous letter designates a couple

Some even sent an anonymous letter naming a well-known 70-year-old couple in the city. But no proof was provided and the couple had to deny because they were solicited by many people from all over the country to come to their aid. “We will find out one day who won this winning ticket, when they leave the city for good,” a Lonaconing merchant told the American daily.

According to Washington Post, some residents hope that part of the amount won can benefit the town and its inhabitants, in particular to restore certain streets and businesses. It would also be a breath of fresh air in this city where the unemployment rate is 24%, double the country.
