MIAMI, Fa. – Police have arrested a Miami man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of electronics, key cards, credit cards and other items in a series of robberies at hotels across South Florida.
Giovanny De La Rosa, 31, is facing charges of robbery and grand theft.
Miami police were called to the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Miami Airport, located on Northwest 11th Street, after a guest reported that his suitcases, containing $7,500 worth of MacBooks and other electronics, had been stolen from his hotel room sometime Monday afternoon, according to an arrest report.
The next day the victim used Apple’s Find My iPad program and AirTags to track her items, locating them in a Miami Springs hotel room.
Agents found De La Rosa and much more at the Comfort Inn & Suites.
According to the report, police found assets from other thefts, credit cards and master key cards from several South Florida hotels.
“We have contacted other departments and they are seeing if he is also a suspect in their cases,” Miami police officer Kenia Fallat said. “So he could be behind a series of robberies right now; we are not going to rule out that he is behind a series of robberies not only in the South Florida area, but in other areas as well.”
Police say this is a good reminder for hotel guests to keep their valuables in a safe.
