Andrei Muraru he is a presidential advisor in the Department of Relations with Public Authorities and Civil Society.

Born in 1982, he is a graduate of the Faculty of History (2005), a graduate of the master’s program “Romanians and Europe” (2007) and a doctor of History (2011) of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi (source – presidency.ro) .

He has worked at the Institute for the Investigation of the Crimes of Communism and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER) since its establishment (2006), occupying various positions, from expert-researcher to executive president (2012-2014). During 2006-2009, he was an adviser to the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and an advisor to the director general of the National Archives of Romania. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Romanian Television Company (2014). Between July and December 2014, he was a personal adviser to the president of the National Liberal Party, Klaus Iohannis.

Andrei Muraru is a university lecturer at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (Department of International Relations and European Integration) and scientific researcher III at the National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania “Elie Wiesel”.

He was a fellow at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Erasmus-Socrates, 2004-2005). He also worked at New Europe College (2009-2010) and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington DC, 2010-2011). He also benefited from a doctoral scholarship funded by the SOP HRD program (2008-2011). He recently received a postdoctoral fellowship from Yad Vashem – The International Institute for Holocaust Research for 2020.

He is the author of the book Vișinescu, the forgotten torturer. Prison, crimes, trial, Polirom, 2017. He is also the coordinator of the volumes Dictionary of Penitentiaries in Communist Romania (1945-1967), Polirom, 2008, The King, the Communists and the Crown. The true story of the abdication of Michael I (together with Alexandru Muraru), Polirom, 2017, The Revolution of 1989. Defeated and victorious (together with Anneli Ute Gabanyi, Alexandru Muraru, Daniel Șandru), Polirom, 2020, and co-author of the book A History of communism in Romania. High school textbook, Polirom, 2008; second edition, 2009; 3rd edition, 2014.

He has also published numerous scientific studies and reviews in journals. Andrei Muraru has participated in numerous international conferences, given lectures and has frequent contributions on recent history topics.

He was decorated by King Mihai for his contribution to the knowledge of the history of the Romanian monarchy with the medal “King Mihai I for loyalty” (2008). But also for the activity at the head of IICCMER with the Order “Crown of Romania” in the rank of Officer (2015). In 2019, Andrei Muraru was decorated by the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, with the Grand Official Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

Andrei Muraru was appointed Presidential Adviser on December 22, 2014.
