The Secretary of Public Security in Chihuahua and the United States Marshals Corps managed to arrest Mayque Marín Gómez, an American citizen who along with his half brother participated in a shooting in Stock Island Florida.
“He Second of two Stock Island brothers wanted by the Sheriff’s Office in a fatal shooting on June 15 was found and arrested in northern Mexico”The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported in a statement.
Marín Gómez, 31 years old and who had an arrest warrant, was arrested in Ciudad Juárez last Sunday, December 13 at 9:30 p.m. He was listed as a person highly dangerous and armed.
José Luis Espinosa Gómez, 35 years old and half brother of Marín Gómez, was arrested in the same city last July and went extradited to the Monroe County Detention Center a month later.
For now, the sheriff’s office said that efforts are still being made to extradite the second implicated. Bail for each of the brothers was set at $ 1.6 million.
“I am pleased to announce that these two men are now in custody for the heinous crimes they have committed. I want to express my gratitude to our detectives from the Major Crimes Unit, as well as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the FBI, the United States Marshals Service, and law enforcement officials in Mexico, all of whom worked very hard to close this case, “said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
According to the Miami Herald, the two men opened fire on two men in Florida. José Clemente, 45, died, while Iliecer Noa, 43, was seriously injured, but managed to survive.
Detectives informed the public that the shots were “targeted hits” and not a random crime. Those now detained lived in an apartment complex on Shrimp Road in Stock Island, according to the Monroe Sheriff’s Office.
Noa was taken to the Lower Keys Medical Center and then airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami-Dade County. He remained in critical condition.
No weapons were found at the crime scene. However, before the shooting, witnesses told police that the men had an argument about a Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Both brothers were armed with pistols and during the discussion they drew their weapons and fired at the two men.
Police searched the brothers’ apartment at the Meridian West apartments and found two pistols that they cannot yet say were used in the shooting. All four men lived on Stock Island at the time of the shooting..
