PARABITA – A 72-year-old retired businessman from Parabita died in the past few hours at the Goddess of Lecce, where he was hospitalized due to Covid-19. He had contracted the infection in a particularly aggressive form. And the virus left him no way out. “Leonardo did not manage to get the better of Covid-19”, wrote the mayor of Parabita, Stefano Prete, on his Facebook page, making public the tragedy that struck a family in his community, after learning of the death.
“Unfortunately – added the mayor -, his conditions were serious from the first moment. This news saddens us deeply and brings us close to his family with our hearts. We always remember that, against this ugly pandemic – concluded Prete -, the only weapons at our disposal to live a normal life are the protective force of the vaccine and compliance with anti-Covid-19 measures “.
The vaccine is not mentioned here casually. The man, former owner of a small shoe factory and well known in his community, actually did not submit to protection. An appointment postponed over time, however, it seems, not out of opposition in itself to the serum. In his family (wife and three children) all have undergone the vaccine and only one of them is currently positive, but in fiduciary quarantine, in his home. In fact, asymptomatic.
Covid-19, in this case, did not affect only the poor 72-year-old. It is assumed that the infection occurred during a dinner, held in November, so much so that three other acquaintances of his who had participated, also unvaccinated, tested positive. In Parabita, the mayor explained, in the conclusion of his post, “the current positives are 22 and affect a total of nine families. They have minor symptoms and, in some cases, nonexistent symptoms “.
