HBO Max has more subscribers than expected

In connection with a report to the Securities and Exchange Commission, AT&T has announced that HBO and HBO Max together now have 73.8 million subscribers. Clearly more than the company expected the services to have by the end of 2021. Something that was first noticed by The Verge. At the end of 2020, the number of subscribers was 61 million.

In the report, AT&T does not specify exactly how many subscribers HBO Max has and how many HBO has. The number of subscribers can be compared with competitors Disney Plus, which has 118.1 million paid users, and Netflix, which in its third quarter report for 2021 announced 214 million subscribers.

During the year, HBO Max is believed to have had strong support from the fact that several of Warner Bros.’s major films had simultaneous premieres at both the cinema and HBO Max. At the same time, HBO Max and HBO stopped being available via Amazon Prime’s channels in 2021, which is believed to have reduced the numbers. During the year, HBO Max also became available in more countries, such as Sweden, and received a cheaper subscription.
