Hayange. The book of a slow stroll along the Moselle

We knew he was a fan of walking on the heights of Hayange. The hill of Banholtz (the middle wood) which separates Hayange from the Marspich district had already inspired him with a first book.

Now far from the Hayange political scene, at the end of the first confinement in spring, Marc Olénine put on his boots to escape, slowly, along the Moselle. Nearly 700 kilometers, and three countries (France, Luxembourg, Germany), from the source of the river at Bussang in the Vosges to Koblenz where it flows into the Rhine.

From this journey that looks like a long stroll, he has drawn a new work. A book, this time, richer in photos than in texts.

Ma Moselle, Meine Moselle, Meng Musel , testifies to this rediscovery of the river and its landscapes at the slow pace of the walker.

The drop of water, under the Thionville bridge

“The Moselle flows before our eyes, it is our river […] I went to see where the drop of water that passes under the Thionville bridge came from and where it was going, ”smiles the author. There are no tourist stops here, “the only common thread was to follow the river as close as possible”.

Along the Roman road, cycle paths or along the canal, the Moselle reveals itself: a stream across the Vosges plain, a wilder stream in its meanders between Meurthe-et-Moselle and Moselle, symbolic river from the “laborious valleys” from Metz to Thionville or tourist attraction at the foot of the Riesling hills, etc .;

From this solitary journey, the photographer takes thousands of shots. He will have to choose “only” 200 to illustrate the book. So many often poetic images, tinged with gray light and cloudy skies that they like to capture, and which lead the reader to dream.

Ma Moselle, Meine Moselle, Meng Musel will be available at Le Wilson tobacco store in Hayange. Price: 25 €.
