“In the early morning, no one will see anything! However, it is not without reason that the teams of Benoît Racadot, manager of the DIR-Est center in Villers-la-Montagne, are preparing to close the Hayange tunnel for two nights.

From Wednesday April 5 to Friday April 7, the work of art located on the route of the A30 will be completely closed to traffic, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“The tunnel has gained in quality”

The reason: maintenance work, managed by two services of the Interdepartmental Directorate of Eastern Roads. Namely, the Engineering, Security and Traffic Management Center (CISGT) of Moulins-lès-Metz and its Sesyr (Systems and Networks Department).

“The tunnel has improved in quality. In 2019, many devices were put in place in the Bois de Chênes tunnel. From now on, they have to be maintained regularly…”, points out Benoît Racadot.

An example ? The opacity sensors, which the construction has since been equipped with. Calibration is on the checklist of the companies involved. “As soon as there is smoke in the tunnel, the information must be able to go up and traffic must be cut off, to avoid any danger”, describes the manager.

The listing of service providers also includes a review of: barriers located at each entrance, variable message signs nearby, cameras installed inside, lighting, emergency call station, fire safety, etc.

What deviations?

For their part, the “men in yellow” will “take advantage of the closure to go where they can’t usually go”, when 23,600 vehicles parade daily on this section of the A30. And carry out some maintenance work around the structure.

During these two nights of traffic interruption, users will be diverted: in the direction of Metz-Longwy, by the Nilvange exit, then Knutange and Fontoy before being able to find the 2×2 lanes; in the Longwy-Metz direction, via the RD14 at Boulange-Havange, before joining the A31 at Thionville.
