Hawaii Five-0 – everything about the series

Since 2010 “Hawaii Five-0” to broadcast. An integral part are the two main actors Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan, who has already been nominated for his role for a Golden Globe. The series is a remake of the original of the same name, which was broadcast from 1968 to 1980. At that time, the actors Jack Lord and James McArthur were an integral part of the series. At that time two Emmys could be won. The remake is waiting for one of the coveted prices.

The US episode titles all have a Hawaiian name. So it can happen that an episode “Mai ho`oni i ka wai lana mālie” (season 6, episode 1) or “Aohe Mea Make I Ka Hewa; Make No I Ka Mihi Ole” (season 8, episode 19 ) called.

In Germany it all looks a little easier. The titles in this country have ordinary titles in German. Since the first season, the series has been running on Sat.1. As of today (January 13, 2020), the first nine seasons are also at Amazon Prime Video available.

Over the years, “Hawaii Five-0” has been a welcome place for guest appearances. The numerous cameos include Evel Knievel son Robbie Knievel, Bob Marley son Ziggy Marley, rapper Xzibit, Steve great-grandson actor Jaleel White, comedian Jon Lovitz, comedy legend Carol Burnett and “The Dark Knight” actor Eric Roberts and “Lost” myth Terry O’Quinn. Louis Gossett Jr. was also there. He received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role of “An Officer and a Gentleman” with Richard Gere in 1983.

But it doesn’t work without scandals. Two of the leading actors didn’t extend their contracts because they felt they were discriminated against: Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park. They have represented investigators Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua since 2010. The series stars of the first hour, who turned their backs after seven years and 168 episodes “Hawaii Five-0”. They haven’t been there since season eight. The makers of the series simply wished the long-standing investigator duo all the best for the future.

For the departure from the producing broadcaster CBS, a dispute arose over the media salary named as the reason. After that, Park wanted to get paid just like her co-stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan – also actors since episode one. The US broadcaster had refused and made an offer that was between 10 to 15 percent below the salary of the colleagues. A tangible scandal that unfortunately tells a lot about the pay gap within the ethnologically diverse lines on US television.

“Hawaii Five-0” takes place in the same series universe as “NCIS”, “NCIS: Los Angeles”, “Magnum PI” and “MacGyver”. Therefore, crossover episodes have already occurred. In 2012 there was an overlap with the NCIS: Los Angeles team. The human Swiss army knife MacGyver was in one episode in 2017 and the last thing to be solved was a case together with the team from “Magnum PI”.

Incidentally, shooting is really done in Hawaii. There have also been isolated shoots in Vancouver and Los Angeles and, of course, work in film studios is also a must. But with Oahu, Honolulu and the Kualoa Ranch you have permanent filming locations in the 50th US state.
