Online scams are spreading now Whatsapp at an increasingly rapid pace and taking advantage of specific opportunities. This is the case of Women’s day, to which a scam using the name of the shoe brand Adidas is hooked: as many users in Italy and abroad have now reported, a message is spreading on the promising messaging platform shoes for free on the occasion of the anniversary, but it is in fact nothing more than an attempt to fraud.
The scam on WhatsApp
The Adidas free for Women’s Day WhatsApp scam has been talked about for a few days abroad, while here the scam seems to have been imported just in correspondence of the party. The main thing does not change: the designated victims receive a letter on the messaging platform in which they are informed that they have the possibility of receiving free shoes with the brand of the famous German multinational. All that needs to be done – the scam message says – is to follow the attached link to enter the raffle. At the other end of the link is a site designed to look like an Adidas corporate webpage: inside, visitors are invited to fill in some fields with your personal data, and do it in a few minutes so you don’t miss the opportunity to win the prize.

All the elements are designed to entice the victims to fall into the trap: from the promised price which claims a well known brand and enjoyed worldwide until reference to current events, with the mention of a public holiday of those days; the final blow is here request to act quickly, which pushes to put aside doubts and perplexities.
A quick glance at the web address that appears in the URL bar reveals that the address is not exactly that of the German manufacturer, but a much more suspicious adidas.mx-top. Sensitive data entered by users on the site is basically collected by individuals having nothing to do with Adidas; it goes without saying that there isn’t even a shadow of prizes and raffles.
