Hasidim began to leave Uman, the situation is under control – National Police of Ukraine

“In general, the situation is under control. There have been 21 reports on the stay of Hasidic pilgrims. […] In general, thanks to the well-coordinated work of the State Emergency Service (State Emergency Service. – “GORDON”), the police, the National Guard and the Migration Service, we minimized any kind of provocation and offenses during the stay of pilgrims in the city, “said Anatoly Seredinsky, Deputy Head of the Department of Preventive Activities of the National Police.

According to him, two criminal proceedings have been opened related to the sale of “substances similar to narcotic”, and two administrative protocols have been drawn up, as a result of which “individual Hasidim” will be expelled from Ukraine and banned from entering the country.

Police officers who arrived from Israel helped Ukrainian law enforcement officers to keep order in Uman.

“Together we did everything necessary for everything to go smoothly,” said Israeli police spokesman Michael Zingerman.

Ukrainian police said that on the evening of September 8, Hasidim had already begun to leave Uman for their “countries of permanent residence.”

September 2020 Ukraine closed the border in connection with the epidemic of coronavirus infection. Two days before the border closes Hasidim began to arrive at the airports of Ukraine. The then Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Joel Lyon said that Israel respects the decision of the Ukrainian government to close the borders, so the Hasidim must return to Belarus, and from there – home.

In 2021, Rosh Hashanah was celebrated on September 6-8.

As of the morning of September 7 in Uman more than 29 thousand pilgrims arrived from different countries, police said. The head of the Cherkasy region police, Mikhail Kuratchenko, said that the situation in the city was under control. According to him, law enforcement officers received 38 reports of violations, examined them and drew up six administrative protocols, and also opened three criminal proceedings.
