British politicians speculate that the coronavirus may have escaped from a Wuhan laboratory, reports the Daily Mail.
A member of the Cabinet Office Briefing Rooms (COBRA) said that “If the latest information does not dispute that the virus is ‘zoonotic’ (i.e. of animal origin), it was not excluded that it spread to humans after escaping from a Wuhan laboratory“Although not in the majority, this hypothesis is in any case no longer entirely dismissed according to government sources.
Two laboratories, close to the wild animal market from which the pandemic originates, are thus likely to be the source of the coronavirus leak in nature: the Wuhan Virology Institute and the Wuhan Center for the Prevention and Control of Diseases. These laboratories are however renowned for their high security.
There are, however, unaudited local reports of employees who were infected after being sprayed with blood and who subsequently spread the virus to local people.
Boris Johnson’s administration official and the Chinese Embassy quickly denied the charges.
