Harry & Meghan film director Anne Garbus and her claim Buckingham Palace is lying

One thing cannot be denied to Harry & Meghan – it became the most watched documentary production on Netflix and managed to keep viewers glued to the screen for 81.55 million hours in just the first week of its release.

Liz Garbus, the director of the six series, has plenty more to be proud of. “It was clear to me from the moment I got involved that the interest was going to be huge,” she says in a recent interview with Vanity Fair.

Garbus is no casual artist – her films have explored topics such as the death penalty (The Execution of Wanda Jean), justice (Who Killed Garrett Phillips?) and voting rights (All In: The Fight for Democracy). Therefore, making a documentary about the monarchy does not seem like something exceptional to her.

“I don’t think it’s sacrilegious to question the monarchy in the same way that I don’t think it’s sacrilegious to have doubts about the American government. That’s our role as storytellers — to think critically and ask questions.”

Perhaps it is precisely this point of view of Garbus that allows him to openly accuse Buckingham Palace of lying. “Buckingham Palace said we had not approached them for comment on the content of the documentary series, but we did,” she says.

And he adds that this is a way to discredit Harry & Meghan as a production. “When they discredit the whole show, they also discredit its content – we felt like we were Alice in the Looking Glass,” added the director.

Each of the six series of Harry & Meghan opens with the warning that the royal family has declined to comment on their content. However, after the first three episodes aired, a Buckingham Palace source told People they were never approached for comment.

Later, a royal family source added to the publication that in fact both Buckingham Palace and Kensington, where Prince William’s PR offices are located, had been approached for comment, but not directly by Netflix or Meghan and Harry, but by a third party. country.
