Harry and Meghan perform the final task as full-time royals

The British prince Harry and his wife Meghan today performed their final task as full members of the British royal family.

Harry (35) and Meghan (38) arrived at London’s Westminster Abbey church this afternoon to attend a service on Commonwealth Day, or the day on which the Commonwealth is celebrated. Upon arrival Meghan waved at Harry’s brother William and his wife Kate.

Living in the shelter

The couple were again in public for the first time today with other senior members of the British royal family, after Harry and Meghan announced in January that they would step back into the British royal family and partly move to Canada.

The couple wants more life in the shelter, partly because of the continuous attention of the British tabloids. In exchange for that less prominent role, Harry and Meghan announced that they would be earning their own money.

Crisis consultation

The decision was not discussed with the rest of the royal family and led to crisis consultations with Queen Elizabeth. In that meeting, in which William and Harry’s father Charles also joined, she gave the green light for the step back.

It was agreed that Harry and Meghan may no longer use their royal titles from 31 March. Harry must also hand in his military honorary titles. “Our hope was that we could continue to serve the queen without being paid for it. Unfortunately, that was not possible,” said the prince about that.

Harry and Meghan remain duke and duchess of Sussex and Harry also remains just a prince, but nowadays he would rather be called ‘just’ Harry:
