Harley-Davidson Pan America, ready for adventure

NEW – Renowned for its big road machines, the American firm is venturing into the big trail segment.

The Milwaukee firm, renowned for its large machines mainly intended for cruising, has decided to diversify. Not content with preparing an electric motorcycle, the LiveWire, Harley-Davidson will launch a big trail at the end of 2020. It’s a revolution for the American manufacturer. Presented at the last EICMA show in Milan, this new machine clearly targets the customers of the BMW 1250 GS, the queen of the category. The Harley-Davidson Pan America adopts the panoply of the perfect adventurer: spoked rims mounted on studded tires, engine protection shoe, crash bars, adjustable windscreen, inverted fork at the front, mono-shock absorber at the rear mounted on an oscillating arm and offering a large travel.

This machine of a new kind inaugurates a new engine called Revolution Max. While it retains the classic V-twin architecture, the angle of the V reaches 60 degrees, instead of the usual 45 degrees. Thanks to this architecture coupled with a displacement of 1250 cm3, the power of the Pan America should be established around 145 horses. Unheard of at Harley. Modern instrumentation is based on a digital and probably touch screen, like the LiveWire. The equipment will place this machine at the best level in its class. The Pan America will have adaptive suspensions, LED lighting and numerous driving aids. This big trail, which will appear on the European market at the end of 2020, may one day come to the Dakar to perfect its status as an adventurer.
