Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for the coronavirus and will not be able to participate in Sakhir’s GP this weekend, his Mercedes-AMG team said.
“Lewis was tested 3 times in the past week, each time negative. The last time was on Sunday during the GP.”
“But on Monday he woke up with mild symptoms and was informed that he had been in contact with someone who tested positive. Lewis then delivered a positive test himself. That was also confirmed by a retest.”
“Lewis is now following Covid protocols and in isolation. In addition to his mild symptoms, he is feeling well.”
The team will announce its replacement shortly. The official reserve drivers of the team are Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez, although the name of Nico Hulkenberg has already been mentioned aloud.
