Hamilton is annoyed by silent Formula 1 colleagues after Floyd | NOW

Lewis Hamilton thinks it is not possible that after the violent death of George Floyd in the United States it remained deafening in the Formula 1 world. The six-time world champion feels alone.

46-year-old Floyd, an unarmed black man, died in Minneapolis a week ago by brutal police action. Many celebrities, including athletes, expressed their disgust, but from the Formula 1 camp, in Hamilton’s eyes, it was fearfully silent.

“Some of you are the biggest stars, but keep your mouth shut during this injustice,” the Briton, son of a white mother and black father, writes on Instagram Stories. “There is no sign of Formula 1, which is a white people-dominated sport.”

“I am one of the few people of color in Formula 1 and I feel that I am alone,” said the Mercedes driver. “I would have thought that you would now see what is going on and that you would be speaking out about it. But I know who you are and we will meet again.”

Many drivers react after harsh words Hamilton

Hamilton’s harsh words had immediate effect. Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz, Nicholas Latifi and Lando Norris posted a statement on social media in the hours that followed that they spoke out strongly against racism.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc also responded and immediately explained why he did not do that before. “To be honest, I found it uncomfortable to share my thoughts about the situation on social media. But that was completely wrong. It is our responsibility to speak out against injustice.”
