Hamburg, Bielefeld, Hanover: black ice & snow! The severe weather timetable for today – meteorology

After a snowy night, it continues to snow all day. During the day, two areas form that receive the heaviest snowfall. One focus extends from the Münsterland over the Teutoburg Forest to the Weser Uplands. To the east, on a strip from Hanover to Wolfsburg, there is significantly less snow. But already in the eastern Braunschweiger Land as far as Magdeburg, the models show heavy snowfall.

An overview of the snowfall areas

Hamburg, Oldenburg, Bremen

In the north, the snowfall area begins south of Hamburg. In Oldenburg and Bremen it snows lightly in the morning and there will be around 10 centimeters of fresh snow by Monday.

Münster, Bielefeld, Hanover

Most of the snow comes together between Münster, Bielefeld and Hanover. Up to 20 centimeters fell here during the night. And between Bielefeld and Hanover, up to 30 centimeters of fresh snow can come in.

Ruhr area

It’s not over in the Ruhr area either. Here again 10 to 15 centimeters of snow fall throughout the day. There is also a risk of black ice!

Wolfsburg, Magdeburg, Halle

Further east, the cities are not as badly affected. A good 10 centimeters of snow will be added by Monday. In the Harz Mountains and north of it, however, amounts of up to 30 centimeters are possible. Berlin and Potsdam are only hit with light snowfall – up to 5 centimeters.

Risk of slipperiness south of the snowfall

South of the snowfall – from Düsseldorf to Dresden – there can be heavy black ice. The area, which is prone to slipperiness, extends in the south up to the level of Mainz. In Bavaria it can also be a little more southerly. Because there the rain turns into heavy snowfall at night. Significant amounts of snow must then also be expected there by morning.

More news on weather:

The comparison with 1979 may be a bit slow, because there was much more snow then in large parts than was the case this weekend. It was also significantly colder at the time. But more snow than 1979 is expected in some regions. Here is a comparison to then.
