“When half of the patients cannot identify the source of the infection, it means that the virus can meet people in any place where safety measures are not observed,” Perevoshchikov stressed.

He explained that the spread of Covid-19 is expanding and more and more municipalities are being affected. In general, the primary epidemiological indicators are also deteriorating – the number of cases and the proportion of positive tests. “The indicators we analyze on a daily basis clearly point to a problem,” the expert said.

According to him, this means that the restrictions that have been imposed so far do not work.

It has already been reported that 357 cases of Covid-19 were detected in Latvia last day, while seven people died, according to the data compiled by the SPKC.

Of the deceased, one person was between 45 and 50 years of age, one in the age group from 65 to 70 years, and five – from 80 to 95 years. This is the highest number of Covid-19 deaths per day recorded to date.

To date, a total of 95 deaths have been reported in patients with confirmed infection with Covid-19.

A total of 7,018 Covid-19 tests were performed in the country last day and were positive in 5.1% of cases. The SPCC has previously explained that this figure is considered important in the European Union, as above 4%, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

To date, a total of 7,476 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Latvia, while 1,444 people have recovered from Covid-19.
