Haitians begin to repatriate from Laredo, Texas – El Financiero

LAREDO, Texas.- As of this Friday, the city of Laredo, Texas, began to receive about a thousand citizens of Haiti per day, transported by Customs and Border Protection (CBP). from Del Rio awaiting repatriation to their country of origin, according to information from CBP’s Border Patrol division.

For a few weeks, Laredo prepared for this possibility with the installation of tents that have capacity for up to 500 people and are located next to Highway 83 Sur, where the undocumented will arrive and will be processed by the authorities on the basis of the expulsion ” ipso facto ”, under Title 42, of the sanitary law.

The mayor of Laredo, Pete Sáenz, said that Haitians will arrive by buses to the areas assigned by the Border Patrol, there within 12 hours they will be processed, to finally be transferred to the airport in Laredo, Texas and then to Haiti.

“They are going to keep doing this until the Del Rio numbers wear off. They are going to be in the custody of the Border Patrol (CBP) – or of federal agents all that time, there will be no Haitians in Laredo, Texas, “he said given the concern that the Laredo community has expressed in recent days regarding the arrival of Haitians to the city and the possibility that there are groups of displaced persons without sanitary control.

Pete Sáenz commented that in previous days, flights with Haitians have already departed, but they were processed at the Border Patrol offices to the north, however, as of this Friday, this new modality will be implemented with the use of the tents installed south of Laredo .

Since last Sunday, 12 repatriation flights have left the United States for Haiti and are expected to continue over the next few days.

In addition, to expedite this process, more than 3,000 Haitian citizens have been transferred from the Del Rio camp under the custody of CBP officers to other sectors of the border such as Laredo, Texas.

Migrants are expelled from the United States without the possibility of requesting asylum, thanks to the Title 42 policy that was recently taken up by President Joe Biden.

Currently, there are less than 5,000 Haitians in the Del Río sector awaiting prosecution.
