As a continuation of the protest actions and mobilization of the personal image sector has been developing in 2020 to demand the immediate reduction of VAT to 10% as corresponds to a sector that provides essential services, the next January 20, the most important mobilization in the history of hairdressing and aesthetics at the national level will take place as a result of the collaboration and coordination of more than 100 entities, associations, groups, platforms, brands / suppliers, and professional clubs in the personal image sector.
The day of protest will make visible the agonizing situation of a sector subjected to a double crisis caused by the fiscal drain that supposes to support a VAT at 21%, and the collapse of the activity caused by the COVID crisis.
Regarding the data on the current economic situation of the sector, the IV Wave of the Economic Impact Study of the COVID crisis on personal image carried out in December, allows us to know the bad figures for financial year 2020, and the dire expectations of the sector for the year 2021.
Until the end of 2020, 10,464 hairdressing and beauty salons had closed, 21.8% of those that existed, and without a shock and rescue plan with aid and measures such as the recovery of reduced VAT, between now and March, 18,337 may disappear, that is, 48.9% of the existing ones.
Therefore, the Total number of hairdressers and beauty salons that may disappear until the end of March 2021, is 28,801, 60% of those that existed in 2019.
And in terms of job losses, SMEs in the sector estimate that 48.1% of its workers have been lost in 2020, what it supposes more than 52,000 jobs.
The expectations for 2021 are not promising since when asking what percentage of turnover will be achieved compared to the year of 2019, the SMEs in the sector reflect that there will be a drop of 31.8%.
Likewise, the protest actions aim to put the focus on the Socialist Party (PSOE) and the rest of the parties that support the coalition government, to denounce the betrayal of the commitments acquired with the sector of the personal image when they were in the opposition, and that has provoked the indignation of a sector that contemplates as now from the government, boycotts the NLP and the amendments presented during the votes to the General State Budget preventing the recovery of the reduced VAT personal image.
This great protest action, organized jointly by the platforms BELIEVE IN US and the United Hairdressers Platform of Spain, and that has the support of ANEIP and the set of Associations integrated into the Alliance for the reduction of VAT to 10% to hairdressing and aesthetics, highlights the current climate of sector unit, which demands with a single voice and in unison, the recovery of a reduced VAT and the implementation of a true crash and rescue plan to all administrations in a context like the current one, which threatens thousands of hairdressers and beauty salons, endangering tens of thousands of workers and freelancers.
Son more than 100 associations, groups, platforms, brands / suppliers, and professional clubs in the personal image sector that support this actionrepresenting the more than 10,000 hairdressers and beauty salons throughout the Spanish territory, namely, one in four rooms that exist in Spain.
At all concentrations, the MANIFESTO FOR THE PROFESSIONAL DIGNIFICATION OF THE SECTOR OF THE PERSONAL IMAGE AND AGAINST THE INJUSTICE OF VAT with the vindictive message of the personal image sector to defend its request to return to the reduced VAT that corresponds to it.
