Haikou Dialog Boosts ASEAN Cooperation Ahead of Customs Launch

Haikou’s annual dialogue with Consulates-General of ASEAN countries in Guangzhou concluded friday, solidifying regional partnerships as the Hainan Free trade Port (FTP) prepares for full implementation of special customs operations on December 18th.
Now in its 17th year, the “Dialogue between Haikou and Consulates-General of ASEAN countries in Guangzhou” serves as a key platform for Haikou’s international engagement and a consistent channel for communication with ASEAN diplomatic missions within china. This year’s event focused on identifying new opportunities for practical collaboration between Haikou and nations across the ASEAN region.
Discussions centered on the Hainan FTP’s favorable policies, future growth potential, detailed industrial plans, and available investment prospects. Participants actively explored avenues for increased cooperation as the FTP continues its rapid growth.
A dedicated segment of the dialogue highlighted Haikou’s urban development strategy and prioritized industries, specifically focusing on the film and television sector and the burgeoning digital economy.Presentations outlined the city’s comprehensive “City of Six Initiatives” development blueprint, emphasizing its strengths in innovation, urban planning, and overall quality of life.

Kim Jun-cheol, operations team officer of the Mureung Strategy Division of Donghae City Hall, South Korea, commented that the Hainan FTP’s policies – including tariff exemptions, reduced tax rates, and streamlined tax procedures – ”are a symbol of the Chinese government’s willingness to open up to the outside world.”
