Haidlmair quickly manufactures protective mask tools

In contrast to the very simple product shown here, the masks, which will soon be made with a Haidlmair tool, offer significantly higher protection and can be reused. (Image source: stock.adobe.com)

The corona crisis has a firm grip on Europe and much of the world. Increasing numbers of infected people and reports of new fatalities have almost become the order of the day. In addition, it is repeatedly reported that in hospitals and similar facilities, the required protective equipment is becoming increasingly scarce, and above all the protective masks. Many companies that are able to do so convert their production and produce a wide variety of protective equipment.

So also a German customer from Haidlmair, Nussbach, Austria. This customer would like to produce a new protective mask shortly and has ordered a tool from the toolmaker. This product is a two-part mask made of the plastic material TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), between whose two halves you can simply insert a filter material – depending on the requirements, this can be a normal handkerchief or a high-quality material.

At Haidlmair, efforts are now being made in record time to complete the tool so that the customer can start production as quickly as possible. Managing Director Mario Haidlmair: “We are trying our best so that we too can make a small contribution to overcoming this corona crisis and protecting the people we need more urgently than ever at the moment.”

The toolmaker is also feeling the corona crisis

As with almost all companies, Haidlmair has had some major cuts and changes in the company. The majority of employees who are not directly involved in production have switched to home offices. The new short-time working scheme was also used for some employees. The aim is to be able to continue employing all of the employees who worked for the company at the beginning of the crisis, even after the crisis had been overcome.

In production, however, work continues to be largely “normal”, although of course with the strict observance of all protective measures. “We produce a lot of tools for the storage and logistics area and here especially for the circular economy of the food trade, such as boxes for vegetables or fruit, as well as drinks boxes. Since these products are in particularly high demand at the moment, more boxes are needed. And in order to be able to produce them, our tools are needed, ”explains Mario Haidlmair, the reasons why the Nussbach company did not follow the example of other manufacturing companies and stopped production entirely.
