had inspired the “Valentina” of comics – Corriere.it

She died on Sunday at the Polyclinic Hospital in Milan Luisa Mandelli, wife of Guido Crepax, the creator of «Valentina». Born on December 25, 1937 in Trieste, she would have turned 83 next Christmas. A few days ago she had been hit by Covid-19 and hospitalized at the Polyclinic with severe interstitial pneumonia. He leaves his three children Antonio, Caterina and Giacomo, who since their father’s death (31 July 2003) have collected his cultural heritage and how Crepax Archive protect and reproduce the heritage of images of the Milanese cartoonist.

“Mom has always been our point of reference in everyday life” – remember Antonio, Caterina and Giacomo – “very present in his studies as well as in personal problems, while his father was an inexhaustible source of inspiration and a perfect playmate”.

Always dressed in fashion, her hair cut in a bob by the Vergottini hairdresser, she was a real Valentina, although she did not share the unscrupulous and adventurous life of the character of the revolutionary comic.

Private muse of the author, he had agreed to embody “Valentina”, giving her the date of birth, the clothes and, also, her dreams that her husband elaborated in his stories. As expected, the adventures were generated entirely in the daily life that they led for over 40 in their home in via De Amicis in Milan. But the somatic features of the comic were inspired by Louise Brooks, American actress in Roaring Twenties.

The character made his debut – in fact – in 1965 in the magazine Linus: initially intended for the role of secondary character, soon becomes the protagonist. But who is he, in short? Valentina Rosselli is a photographer, often depicted naked and sensual, having several adventures with Philip, her boyfriend.
