Haar near Munich – police are looking for witnesses to the tree crime – district of Munich

After the tree crime at the Haar forest cemetery, the police and the community ask for information from the population. After the town hall has filed a complaint, the officials are now investigating damage to property. According to the municipality, the perpetrator (s) deliberately destroyed five beech trees, presumably by drilling several holes in each of the trunks with a cordless screwdriver and pouring a poisonous liquid into it. According to the police, the substance is currently being investigated.

According to the municipality, it is not possible to say exactly when the act took place. Because the holes are not yet mossy or weathered, the damage could hardly have been more than six months ago. The two red beeches and three hornbeams with trunk circumferences over two meters largely died within a short time and had shed the leaves. In the town hall it is assumed – against the background of complaints about leaves on graves – that precisely these trees were “undesirable” for the perpetrator. Apart from the ideal value of a tree, the damage due to the woody value is in the five-digit euro range. The beech trees that have been drilled should remain in place for the time being. “We monitor the further development of the trees. If they die off completely, at least parts of the trunk remain as dead wood,” explains Haars environmental officer Andreas Nemetz. The destroyed trees would at least make a contribution to biodiversity

The police station on Haarerrechnerstrasse, phone 089/462 30 50, receives witness information.
