Haaland took the blame when the trophy slipped:

(Dortmund-Bayern 2-3) Erling Braut Haaland both scored and assisted, but lost the German supercup final.

Erling Braut Haaland helped bring the match to life when he served Julian Brandt before the break. The German thanked and bowed for the pass and reduced to 2-1.

– A nice assist, summed up dad Alfie Haaland in Viasat’s studio.

After the break, the Norwegian national team striker equalized Bayern’s lead and it was 2-2 at the Allianz Arena. Haaland was played nicely by his Scandinavian teammate, Thomas Delaney, and alone with Manuel Neuer, the 20-year-old was icy cold.

Five minutes later he was one on one with the German national team goalkeeper again. This time it was Neuer who won the duel between the two, and Haaland almost took the blame for not winning.

– Simple and straightforward: I should have scored on Neuer. Then I think we had won, says Haaland to Viasat after the match.

– I would like to see in advance that he stood for a long time. Normally, the goalkeepers go down, but it did not go against this racket here, he explains about the chance.

Midway through the second half, Lucien Favre chose to replace Braut Haaland. The Super Cup is usually played before the season, but was postponed this year due to the pandemic. The match came at an inconvenient time, and the manager wanted to save Haaland and several of the other first team players for this weekend’s league match against Freiburg.

At the end, Bayern decided to 3-2 and win.

– I think we play a “bad” good match out here. There are small margins between the world’s best team and Borussia Dortmund now. It is “jysla” sad to feel it now, Haaland sums up.

The Super Cup is played between last season’s league champion and cup champion. Bayern took the lead by Corentin Tolisso after a magnificent counterattack. The Frenchman was played free in front of goal by Robert Lewandowski, shot via goalkeeper and in the crossbar, but eventually got the ball in goal.

After just over half an hour, ring fox Thomas Müller doubled the lead. The German lurked in the field and literally smashed Felix Passlack in the air after a post from Alphonso Davies.

With a reduction before the break and a good second half, Dortmund fought their way back into the match. Eight minutes before full time, however, the stroke of mercy came from Bayern Munich.

Delaney messed up the ball in midfield, something the Champions League winner’s star gallery brutally exploited. Lewandowski was played through, but in a pressured situation he served teammate Joshua Kimmich. The first finish was stopped, but from a lying position the midfielder got the ball messed up in goal.

Also in last year’s supercup, it was Dortmund and Bayern who met. At that time, the yellow-clad won 2-0 after goals from Jadon Sancho and Haaland’s predecessor, Paco Alcácer. The two league games in last year’s season, however, it was Hansi Flick’s men who emerged victorious.

Bibiana Steinhaus – the world’s most deserving female football referee – refereed Wednesday’s match. This was her last professional match, as Steinhaus has decided to quit.
