Gustavo Petro Criticizes Presidential Candidate, Eyes Future Elections

Bogotá,Colombia – President Gustavo Petro has criticized presidential candidate Mauricio Cárdenas,stating that his proposals represent a move “towards the abyss.” The president’s remarks came in response to a video shared by Cárdenas on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

The video featured Cárdenas referencing a past statement by Daniel Quintero, the former mayor of Medellín, and questioning the Petro governance’s progress.

Cárdenas’s video recalled Quintero’s phrase, “the first change in first,” and asked, “Do you remember the car with Daniel Quintero? That which supposedly the petro government was to put Colombia first for Colombia to walk?” Cárdenas continued, “Well, they put the first, but the chamboneada. Imagine, they didn’t know. It’s more, do you know what they did? They had at one point that putting the brake on hand and stopped this contry dry. And in health, not happy with that, reverse. And the country threw back. And they collided as that was already in ruin. So, no more, no more past pact. Now, we have to put this country to advance. Now, Colombia on wheels.Now, Colombia onwards.”

Earlier, President Petro had spoken about internal dynamics within the left, notably concerning a regional agenda in Cauca.He emphasized the need for unity, stating, “It is a majority that we kill each other.I have asked Tocayo Bolívar that we are not hear to hit us among us.”

Petro further elaborated on historical divisions within the left, noting, “That has already done the left since I was a baby. He has even killed himself or if not, well, what happened to many peopel who were founder of groups that now no longer defend the people, but they walk is crawling out there then? Here they are deceiving us and destroying the popular organization and is weakening the people.”
