Guard of French consulate in Jeddah stabbed

A man has attacked a guard at the French consulate in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

Na de knife attack in Nice Thursday morning, another incident took place in Jeddah. A man was arrested there who attacked a guard at the French consulate with a ‘sharp object’, the French embassy reported on Twitter. The guard has been taken to hospital and is not in danger of death.

“The French embassy condemns this attack against a diplomatic post,” the embassy said in a statement. “We call on our fellow countrymen in Saudi Arabia to be extremely vigilant.”

France is still obtaining the beheading on October 16 of teacher Samuel Paty, who had shown Mohammed cartoons in his class. After the assassination, French President Emmanuel Macron launched an attack on extremists. The fact that Macron said that ‘we will not give up our cartoons’ and lashed out at ‘Islamist separatism’ was not well received by some Muslim countries, including Turkey and Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia condemned the showing of cartoon insulting the Prophet Mohammed, but did not call for a response.
