As you probably know, the Pax East 2020 closes its doors today. The American salon dedicated to independent games hosted this year many studios, including Obsidian Entertainment. The Californian teams had indeed scheduled a round table during the event to present Grounded in more detail. The studio’s next survival game has thus received a first gameplay video of more than 10 minutes!
For those who missed the game’s announcement at X019, Grounded is a survival game. This puts you in the shoes of a group of miniaturized children who face unexpected dangers. In the garden of an American house in the 80s and 90s you will discover an adventure worthy of “Honey, I have shrunk the kids”. The grass around you becomes immense and the smallest insect becomes a serious danger. In short, the game should be well crossed!
10 minutes of Gameplay for Grounded
The round table organized during this PAX East was therefore entirely devoted to Grounded. The developers thus returned to their objectives but also to different ideas that they will integrate into the game. To be more precise, it was during a question and answer session with the audience that the teams were able to detail certain plans that ‘they had imagined. The rain should for example be an important element of the gameplay and have its share of consequences at stake. Other information validated during this round table, it turns out that the insects will not be only enemies. Some of them can be domesticated and help you on your adventure. But developer responses weren’t the only info to recover.
Indeed, Obsidian Entertainment revealed more than 10 minutes of gameplay during this meeting. We thus discover certain gameplay mechanics such as harvesting water or food or even building shelters. This will necessarily involve exploring the flora that surrounds you, even if it means encountering sometimes wild fauna. The video will show you some fights and if the ants offer very little resistance, the spiders already seem more complicated to face.
Finally, it is also interesting to note that the developers have assured that a motivating scenario will be present. This should allow players to find the urge to advance in the game and discover all that Grounded has to offer. As a reminder, the game will enter a Preview version from spring 2020 and will be available as part of the Xbox Game Pass. The release of the title in its final version should arrive in 2021, on Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
