Groningen hospital has already postponed dozens of operations – Wel.nl

The Martini Hospital in Groningen has to postpone eighty operations, because almost 10 percent of the staff are at home with a cold and seasonal flu. That is why the hospital will close two operating rooms for the next two weeks.

Too few people are available to perform all treatments. “We realize that it is really annoying for patients that we cancel a number of operations in the short term,” says chairman of the board Hans Feenstra. RTV North. “By temporarily closing two operating theaters, we hope to keep the impact as small as possible.”

Feenstra is especially concerned because the number of corona patients in his hospital is steadily rising, but there is already not enough staff to provide all the care needed. The capacity is almost fully used. “That means there is very little stretch left and that worries me,” said the chairman of the board.
