Grizzlys Wolfsburg: “Show face” campaign is well received, some sponsors are extending it

Cardboard displays on the seats in their arena to make the fans visible – many professional clubs are taking this route because their visitors have been banned from the corona pandemic. Ice hockey first division team Grizzlys Wolfsburg has also chosen this path under the motto “Show your face”. The fans can send in their photos, the club then produces the displays and places them in such a way that “it also has an atmospheric effect on TV. Not somewhere in the upper tier under the roof,” says Marketing Director Simon Drühmel.

Within a few days, 150 displays were brought to the fans. “A strong number,” said Drühmel. Anyone who orders by Friday evening (December 11th) will be there virtually on the first matchday (December 20th, home game against Krefeld). Drühmel: “But it will of course be reproduced. And those who decide by the end of the year will automatically take part in the competition.” There are some nice prizes. On top of that, the grizzlies donate three euros per display to the offspring. And after the season, the stand will be returned with an autograph.

The campaign is well received, and a number of marketing contracts have also made people happy: Toto-Lotto Niedersachsen extended the contract by one season, Deutsche Bahn and Audi BKK extended theirs by two years. “That cannot be taken for granted in these times, nor is the support that we have received from many of our other sponsors and partners.” Drühmel admits: “There were losses, but there was also a great sense of solidarity and a move closer together.”

The club works with its partners on creative and individual solutions in order to offer them something in return. “We’re on the right track, but understandably there are also slumps, so it’s a hard time, it remains a great challenge and there is still a lot to do,” says Drühmel. Recently there was another good news: DEL sponsor Penny is placing an advertising banner in the ice arena. “That,” says the Grizzly’s head of marketing, “is an additional commitment directly to the club, a clear commitment to ice hockey. To have such a partner by your side in this environment is great.”

Fauser is training again

National striker Gerrit Fauser has resumed training with the grizzlies, he still practices in a white jersey (without physical contact) after his adductor injury. He was injured before the game of the Magentasport Cup in Krefeld, his comeback to the DEL start on December 20 (against Krefeld) is not excluded, but it will be close.
