Greta Thunberg and Prince Charles: First meeting in Davos

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Prince Charles and Greta Thunberg met for the first time on Wednesday. All around: flashes of lightning without equal.

The British heir to the throne Prince Charles met at the World Economic Forum in Davos for the first time with the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, The son of Queen Elizabeth II. And the 17-year-old are on the same wavelength: Charles is also committed to sustainability.

Charles has been warning of global warming for many years, and has been campaigning for a sustainable future for over four decades, according to a message on his official Twitter page. He now gave a speech at the annual conference in Davos and presented a new project (Sustainable Markets Initiative and Council), which is working to make “a more inclusive, fairer and greener market” accessible to everyone. At the lectern, he warned: “Should we go down in the history books as the people who did nothing to save the world from the abyss and restore balance when we had the chance? I don’t want it.”

“I’m still not used to it”

Everything that he had done for environmental protection in the past decades, he had done “with our children and grandchildren in mind”. He did not want him to be accused of not doing anything for their future. “Now, of course, they accuse us of just that.” You are young people like Greta Thunberg, whom Charles has now personally met for the first time. At the meeting, the 71-year-old said how pleased he was. Greta answered in the affirmative and came to the press hype: “I think you are all very used to it.” Charles’ answer: “It took many years to get used to it.” Whereupon Greta said, “I’m still not used to it.”

In a CNN interview Charles gave after the meeting, the Royal said about Greta Thunberg: “It is remarkable, it represents the main reasons why I have tried all these years to do all this effort.” Among other things, Charles called for new environmental taxes, more environmentally friendly fuels for means of transport such as ships and the use of hydrogen to power aircraft by 2030.

Thunberg had already spoken to the World Economic Forum on Tuesday. She accused the company heads, politicians and representatives of society of inactivity and in doing so lay down indirectly with the US President, who was also present Donald Trump who dismissed the warnings of the climate crisis as clairvoyance and pessimism.
