The publishing company Grenoble University Press (PUG) has been offering since last year a set of texts written by scientists and researchers that it puts online for free. “The Research Virus collection was born in 2020 from a shock, when we noticed, at the time of the pandemic and confinement, that the words of scientists were inaudible on the media scene., explains Ségolène Marbach, Editorial Director. However, our role at the PUG is the transmission of knowledge from the university. The bookstores were closed, so we thought we were going to give a platform to science and offer something fluid and editorialized to make the writings easy to read. »
Four new texts per month
The result takes the form of very short digital books (Ebooks) (10,000 characters). “Each time, a scientist takes stock of a subject in a very accessible way”, says Ségolène Marbach. After noting a certain enthusiasm from the public, with thousands of downloads, the project became permanent and, within the framework of Grenoble, the green capital of Europe, it is planned to publish four titles per month. “which respond to the themes chosen by the scientific council”.
