Greenwood Hospital CEO Steps Down After RCHD Status Achievement

Gary⁤ Marchand will retire‍ as interim CEO of Greenwood (Miss.) Leflore ⁣Hospital on Jan.1, the ⁤hospital announced.

Mr. Marchand successfully guided the hospital to achieve Rural community Hospital Exhibition (RCHD)⁣ status, as detailed in a Sept. 4 news release from the board of commissioners. He assumed the interim CEO role in 2022, and⁣ prior to that,‌ served as interim CEO from October 2019 to mid-October 2020, according to a hospital‌ spokesperson.

“I returned on an‌ interim basis to help the hospital through turbulent times​ in the post-pandemic period,” ‌Mr. Marchand said in a statement to Becker’s on Sept. 5. “Now that the hospital has achieved RCHD status and financial stability, I feel the ⁣time is right for the hospital to move forward with the recruitment of a permanent CEO to ⁣serve the hospital in the coming years.”

The ⁤RCHD designation will generate increased revenue from ‍Medicare inpatients and enable the launch of a swing bed service ⁣line,Mr.‌ Marchand‍ explained in a ⁣Sept. 3 memo to staff. the programme, established by the centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, aims to fortify rural‍ hospitals ​facing financial challenges.
