Green outskirts of cities turned out to be more dangerous to health than the center –

Briefly about the findings of scientists writes publication “Indicator”. Due to industry, the soil is contaminated with heavy metals, which then end up in water, dust and plants. Denser soils can retain harmful substances. Experts have drawn up the first map of Moscow taking this factor into account.

For work, scientists took soil samples from 224 points throughout the city and found out how much heavy metals they contain: nickel, cadmium, manganese, lead, copper, zinc, arsenic and mercury.

The most contaminated soil was in the center of Moscow. However, they can filter contaminants better. But the soils on the outskirts of the city have a weaker barrier function, so they are less resistant to less pollution.
