Photo: Georg Keller / Garden Department After the long-awaited rain, spring is now unfolding again with all its splendor. It’s time to launch the Green Circle’s annual floral decoration competition. During the corona pandemic, the chairman of the association, city councilor Willi Dürrnagel, sees it as an important sign of urban society, according to a city press release. Once again this year, the most magnificent blooming oases will be awarded in three different categories. At the center of the first category are attractively planted windows, balconies or front gardens. Restaurants, hotels or commercial buildings upgraded with lush greenery are recognized in the second category. The engagement in school gardens, allotments and in the context of urban gardening ultimately forms the basis for the third category. A price of 100 euros can be awarded in each category. In addition, in the category of magnificently planted windows, balconies or front gardens, two further prices of € 75 and € 50 are available. Special prizes are donated by the Beautification Association Würzburg e. V., the Würzburg composting plant, the Würzburg – Sieboldshöhe e. V., the city association of allotment gardeners Würzburg e. V. and the Heidingsfeld fruit and gardening association. Every Würzburger who has created a green oasis can participate. The only requirement is that the competition entry is visible or accessible from the street or from public paths. The Green Circle accepts registrations until June 30th.
