Green Airlines can no longer offer flights

Green Airlines does not want to say much about it, except that they are busy looking for a new partner for the flight operations. “Passengers will be informed about the follow-up as soon as possible. If a flight is cancelled, you will be fully reimbursed for the ticket costs,” the company said in a statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Since the spring, the virtual airline has rented two Embraer 190s from German Airways, including crew, after several other partners had already passed the review.

Groningen Airport Eelde
With one of those Embraers, flights were also started from Groningen Airport at the beginning of July, to destinations in the Mediterranean. Two weeks later, those routes were canceled again. Officially, this happened because of the tightened travel restrictions and the impact of the corona crisis, but according to German media, there was already more going on in the background.

Since the flights from Germany to Southern Europe were also cancelled, Green Airlines only offered flights to the German Wadden Island of Sylt (from Cologne-Bonn via Paderborn). The future of that regular service is now uncertain. On Sunday, German Airways operated the last flight.

downer
When the flights from Groningen Airport were discontinued, Green Airlines indicated that they might be resumed at the beginning of August. But without planes that will be difficult. The flights are also not (yet) bookable. This seems like a quick return from the job.

For Groningen Airport, the discontinuation of the flights was a big downer, because Green Airlines was the largest airline at the northern airport at the time.
