Greater Noida Dowry murder: Accused Vipin Bhati Shot During Escape Attempt, shows No Remorse
Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh – Vipin Bhati, teh accused in the alleged dowry-related murder and burning of his wife, Nikki, was shot in the leg on Sunday while attempting to flee police custody, officials confirmed. Bhati was initially arrested on Saturday.Following the encounter, a video surfaced showing Bhati displaying a lack of remorse, stating, “fights happen between husband and wife.” He has since been sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
The case has sparked outrage and renewed focus on the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in India. Nikki, 26, was allegedly tortured and set ablaze by her in-laws in Greater Noida, with her family alleging escalating demands for dowry as the primary motive.
According to Nikki’s father, the demands began shortly after the marriage and steadily increased, culminating in a request for ₹36 lakh. “Their demands were increasing day by day… and they had started asking for ₹36 lakh in dowry from us,” he stated.
Police investigations reveal a recent dispute over Nikki’s intention to reopen her beauty parlour triggered the fatal assault. On August 21st, Nikki informed Vipin of her plans to resume operations at the salon, alongside her sister, Kanchan. Kasna Station House Officer dharmendra Shukla reported that Vipin objected, leading to a heated argument.”Investigation revealed that around 3.30 pm, Nikki told Vipin that she and her sister would reopen the parlour. When he refused, Nikki said that no one could stop them from reopening, which Bhati opposed,” Shukla said.”Vipin told her that in their family, posting reels on Instagram and running a parlour were not allowed. The issue turned ugly, and he started assaulting her.”
The sisters operated beauty channels under the handle “Makeover by Kannchan” on Instagram and YouTube, promoting their parlour.
This tragedy is compounded by a history of alleged abuse spanning nine years. Nikki and her sister, Kanchan (29), reportedly endured frequent fights, assaults, and relentless demands for money and luxury items. Both sisters were married into the Bhati family in 2016 – Nikki to Vipin and Kanchan to Rohit bhati.Nikki’s father, Bhikahri Singh, described a pattern of financial exploitation. “Both brothers don’t work. As the marriage, they kept asking for money; sometimes they said, ‘Give us your Mercedes’, or asked for our Scorpio.I helped my daughter open her own beauty parlour as Vipin had no work. He then started stealing money from the parlour,” he told PTI Video.
The case is currently under investigation, with authorities seeking to determine the full extent of the alleged abuse and the circumstances surrounding Nikki’s death. The incident underscores the ongoing struggle against dowry-related crimes in India, despite legal prohibitions and public awareness campaigns.
