Great! Not only to China, this is the result of Jokowi paying RI’s debt

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The Indonesian government has a foreign debt (ULN) in May 2022 of US$ 406.3 billion. However, this number decreased compared to April which was US$ 410.1 billion.

The decline in debt was caused by a decrease in the external debt position of the public sector (Government and Central Bank) and the private sector. The good news is that Indonesia’s debt depreciation is not only in China but also in several other countries.

On an annual basis, external debt in May 2022 contracted 2.6% (yoy), deeper than the contraction in the previous month of 2.0% (yoy).

The Government’s external debt in May 2022 consistently continued the downward trend. The government’s external debt position in May 2022 was recorded at US$ 188.2 billion, down from the position of external debt in the previous month of US$ 190.5 billion.

On an annual basis, the Government’s external debt contracted by 7.5% (yoy), deeper than the contraction in the previous month of 7.3% (yoy).

The downward trend in external debt occurred in line with several series of Government Securities (SBN) maturing in May 2022 and the influence of global sentiment that triggered a shift in portfolio investment in the domestic SBN market by non-resident investors.

Private external debt declined compared to the previous month. The position of private external debt in May 2022 was recorded at US$ 209.4 billion, down from US$ 210.9 billion in April 2022. Annually, private external debt contracted 0.7% (yoy) after growing 0.3% (yoy) in previous month.

The decline was contributed by non-financial corporations’ external debt which contracted by 0.9% (yoy), after growing 0.8% (yoy) in the previous month.

This development mainly came from the repayment of maturing loans and debt securities. On the other hand, the external debt of financial institutions (financial corporations) grew by 0.3% (yoy), after contracting 1.9% (yoy) in the previous month.

Viewed by country, Indonesia’s debt is also reported to have decreased in the majority. Last May, Jakarta’s debt to Beijing amounted to US$ 21.779 billion or Rp 326.7 trillion, down around Rp 2.9 trillion from the previous year. Of the total debt to China, government debt is only US$ 1.58 billion, while private debt is US$ 20.19 billion.

Debt to Singapore has decreased for the third month in a row, from US$ 60.93 billion in April to US$ 59.82 billion in May 2022.

Debt to Japan fell for the second month in a row, where it is now US$ 25.18 billion, lower than US$ 25.22 billion in the previous month. Debt to the US, which soared and hit a record high in April, decreased by US$34 million, to US$34,864 billion.
