“Graz Giants U16 Player Tristan Mauracher Talks Flag Football: Leagues, Chances, and More”

Tristan Mauracher is a player on the Giants U16 tackle football team. Checkerin Jazz asked him a few questions about his favorite sport.

GRAZ. Checkit youth reporter Jazz talks to Tristan Mauracher about flag football, the Graz Giants and their chances in the coming season.

How did you get into flag football?

I was at the first team game and there was an announcement about the new U11 unit. I attended a trial training and my passion was awakened.

Who can practice the sport?

In principle, entry is recommended from the age of eight. There are no upper age limits. The Giants play flag football in the U11s and U13s, then switch to tackle football in the U14s. We are always looking for offspring, the more children the better. The great thing about football, whether it’s tackle or flag football, is that there’s a position for every body type. Enthusiasm and motivation to come to training regularly is something you should bring with you.

What leagues are the Giants in?

The Giants play with their tackle football fighting team in the AFL, this is the top division, in the youth with the U14, U16, U18 and with the flag football teams of the U11 and U13.

Why should the offspring join the Giants?

Our coaches are trained through the federation’s licensing system to ensure our players receive the best possible education. For many years, Giants players have been important performers in the Austrian junior or men’s national team and celebrate international success.

What are your chances in the coming season?

We are currently building the new U13 unit. Our U11 was able to take 3rd place last season, in 2019 our U11 was state champion. So the chances are good.
