Grapperhaus: Dismissal of prosecutors in Ukraine little impact on MH17 trial | NOW

Justice minister Ferd Grapperhaus said Tuesday during Question Time in the House of Representatives that he thinks the departure of the Ukrainian prosecutors who were on the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) will have little influence on the MH17 process.

Through NRC came out on Monday that all prosecutors investigating the MH17 disaster were forced to leave the country.

Among them are prosecutors who also helped with the JIT, the international partnership that investigates the shooting of MH17.

But, according to Grapperhaus, because the investigation file in the case is completely up to date, he still has confidence in the proceedings. In addition, one of the Ukrainian prosecutors still remains affiliated with the JIT.

Process MH17 starts in March

The criminal case against three Russians and one Ukrainian begins on 9 March. They are suspected of the murder of the 298 passengers of the aircraft. There were 196 Dutch people among them.

On July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine. The JIT has determined that the aircraft was knocked down by a stoop-missile from the Russian army. The men who will now stand trial, according to the judiciary, among other things, had a role in transporting the stoop-rocket.
