Graphene lithium-ion battery is almost ready for production

Los Angeles Technology Startup Real Graphene reported about the readiness to produce lithium-ion batteries with outstanding properties. The developers promise to change the idea of batteries, but so far we are seeing another “breakfast” without any guarantee of a speedy breakthrough.

Real Graphene manufactures conventional lithium-ion batteries as external power sources (Power Bank). For example, Real Graphene products are presented on Amazon’s website in the form of batteries with a capacity of 10,000 mAh for $ 90. It is claimed that these are the fastest charging Power Banks in this store, capable of recharging in 50 minutes. But do not look for graphene in them. Real Graphene, according to the management, is only looking for contacts with manufacturers of smartphones and batteries to promote new developments to the level of commercial products.

The company promises to begin production of lithium-ion batteries with graphene as soon as possible. In a few weeks, a crowdfunding campaign will be launched for this purpose. It is planned to be the first to release a G-100 battery with a capacity of 10,000 mAh for $ 90 (plus $ 15 for a 100-W charger on a special chipset). Later, a G-100 Max battery with a capacity of 20,000 mAh will be released. By using graphene in the structure of these batteries, the full charge time will be reduced, respectively, to 20 minutes for the G-100 model and up to 40 minutes for the G-100 Max model with twice the capacity.

In addition to the record charging time, graphene batteries promise to withstand a larger number of cycles of full charge and discharge – up to 1500 instead of 300-500 cycles for conventional lithium-ion batteries. And all this may be available for purchase before the end of this year. When such batteries appear in smartphones, no one is taken to say. At the same time, Real Graphene is developing lithium-ion batteries with graphene for smart watches and other mobile gadgets, which also will not interfere with fast charging and a greater number of charge cycles.

By the way, we are not talking about increasing capacity yet. Graphene is interesting in that it is able to conduct heat and current better than ordinary conductors. Obviously, the addition of graphene to lithium batteries in the electrodes and into the structure in the form of “composite sheets” increases the charge and discharge currents without overheating and the risk of short circuit and fire. But this is also not bad. Regarding the price of the issue, graphene batteries can be up to 30% more expensive than ordinary lithium-ion batteries. We wait?
